Hating Trump doesn’t Help

Hating Trump is very common these days, but it hurts more than it helps. Let it go.

Someone in a Facebook group posted:

I never thought I could hate someone as much as I hate #45 …  and for that Lord, I’m asking for forgiveness

Hating is stressful- it hurts you

What’s bad about hating is that it gives you a high level of stress and clouds your judgement. If you don’t shake it off, it’ll recur. Hatred is large emotion- it easily effects your brain. Hating can quickly become a mental habit, plaguing your life. Pretty soon, every news story about Trump will ignite that anger. It will eat away at your life and weaken you, helping him win.

Accept Trump as the “madman in charge”

I suggest treating Trump as merely the madman in charge. He doesn’t know what he’s doing. He’s delusional. To him, his actions are appropriate. Don’t hate him. Instead, pity him for being in a job that’s far beyond his capabilities. And pity America for suffering under him.

Yes, he should be removed from office. In fact, him being incompetent is a far better reason for removing him than him being hated.

But the bottom line for this article is that it’s better for you, too. Having sympathy is a healthier emotion than hatred.

Accept Trump’s supporters

Similarly for those who elected Trump. Hating them will sour your life. They did the best they could. Some of them merely hated Hillary. Others just wanted a change and Trump is certainly different. Yes, a minority of them actually like Trump. But please accept that many of them had decent intentions and voted for him out of desperation.

For me, voting for Trump wasn’t an option. As a narcissist, he’s mentally deficient and unable to stop lying, much less admit a truth. He’s not a complete sociopath- he seems to genuinely feel for people while watching a movie or an emotional news story. But when he turns away and goes to take action, his tiny ability to empathize vanishes. And he seems unable to summon any sort of intelligence about even hiring decent people, much less proposing solutions.

Constructive actions for 2018

What’s the best plan for 2018? Personally, I recommend supporting PeopleCount. so we can launch our solution. For your information, I’m expending most of my efforts toward its launch (including expenses I can’t really afford – you’re welcome to chip in.)

Another good solution is brandnewcongress.org – promoting new, less-partisan legislators to office. While I fault neither the Democrats nor Republicans with trying to win, nor with trying to uphold their values, clearly the divisive nature of the parties is not serving America.

To me, supporting democrats is a distant third. They continue to run a party of exclusivity, wanting party, not voter, control Congress and government. A winner-takes-all Congress has been proven to not work. (Obama and the Democrats had power in 2009 and 2010, and did very little with it.) If I wanted to support Democrats, I would support Emily’s list (Emily’s List). While there’s nothing magical about liberal women in Congress, my guess is that it’d contribute to a cultural shift, and the culture of Congress is the real problem.

Bottom line- stop hating

The bottom line: Notice when anger or hatred arises and take a big breath. Then let out your breath and pity Trump. Then add your email address to our mailing list.
