Better than Results, a Foundation that Guarantees Democracy

Results are great. But better is to have a system with a foundation that guarantees good results.

America mostly despises its current political system. George Washington warned against parties, but they run politics in America. ‘Even though 66% of voters say neither party represents them. And over half think Congress is corrupt.

I received an email from a woman today who said she works with that highly effective organization: Results. Plus she’s excited about supporting a particular candidate for governor. This is my reply to her:

Better than Results

Results is a great organization. But they’re not changing the real source of power, our political system. Nor is any candidate proposing real change, and for good reason. No single public official can change it.

In fact, no one seems to even look at the political system. It’s the ground on which all of our political problems stand. More than that, it’s the ground in which they grow and thrive. It makes all of our political problems not only legal, it makes them seem appropriate to the people that promote them.

When asked, people say they deeply disapprove of Congress, the president, many aspects of our political laws. Most people say that things must change. And people say things can’t change.

Yet politics is just how we, together, govern ourselves. Especially in America, we have power over it if:

  • We want to
  • We say it can be done
  • We have a desirable alternative

But we don’t say it can be done and all but the few readers of my blog know that it’s possible.

Luckily, there’s another option: To build a system that can provide rewards to use it and as it grows it changes the foundation of our political system to one that promotes good results and stifles the problems.

Unluckily, no one wants to think about the foundation of our political system. While people love to complain about the effects, no one wants to think deeply, about the cause. So (unless you take action) until it launches and grows a bit, it’ll have little support.

With support, it’ll take some work. There are a few person-months of software to write, lots of details to get right, and there’ll be lots of people to contact. But with support, we can fix the foundation of democracy in the next year.

With your support, we can

  • Lessen the costs of campaigns
  • Lessen the importance of money in elections
  • Lessen the power of the parties
  • Increase competition in elections
  • Have real representation
  • Have real accountability
  • Rejuvenate democracy
